Homecoming of torch flight I CORPS 2010 →
Tell You About it: Returning from IRAQ-Homecoming 2010 What a happy day! The last days seemed to have gone by like molasses. Then the moment arrived and there are only few moments in my life rivaling with the image burnt in my mind as I discovered my husband in the marching line up. If you listen, you’ll hear my youngest screaming ‘daddy!’ God bless the warriors that are home...

Little Adventures.... →
Since life can’t always consist of fun and exciting adventures we have one here that falls under the ‘Army relocates us and it sucks’ Adventure….Building a deck - in Washington- in the rain- doesn’t get anymore adventurous than that. :-) I was waiting for Tim to get electrocuted while working in the pouring rain with power tools…I was standing by with a working...

Our First Adventure Race in 4 years
Crazy as it might seem but a few days before the movers came to pick up our household goods we decided the proper break for us would be to do an adventure race. We did a ‘super sprint’ for “very” beginners and the ones that aren’t quite in shape ;-) Today was break time from “all things PCS”. My husband, Tim, had signed up both of us with an adventure race here in...

Grueling outdoor adventure race blends... →
We’ve done the smallest of the races here in Washington: the Ridge to River in Wenatchee and only always as a team, one of these days we’ll be in shape to do all of it. In fact I’d do it right now. who cares if it sucks.

Me and my Swiss Army Knife
Several years ago I came upon the concept of taking a motorcycle trip…a long one…a really, really long trip! Not to Sturgis nor to the second largest ball of twine in the South, but across a continent or perhaps through a number of foreign countries. All of the Army travel has done nothing to diminish my need to get out and see something. And this time I get to choose where I go and actually be...

digilish: Heroic Skydiver Saves Woman’s Life After Parachute Failure If you’re skydiving and your parachute fails, there’s always a backup. But what if the backup fails, too? That’s when you pray that you’re jumping with a hero like Dave Hartsock, who risked his own life to save someone else’s. Hartsock was the instructor paired with Shirley Dygert for her first ever skydive—a challenge she...

Joint Services Open House Airshow 2010
msink: This weekend, Lorelie and I went to both days of the Joint Services Open House Airshow at Joint Base Andrews (formerly Andrews Air Force Base). It’s days like these that I really look up to men and women in the military. Ever since high school, I’ve entertained the thought of joining. I’d love to be a pilot, but I probably couldn’t do it since my eyesight is horrible. Maybe I can invest...

Going to Another Military Duty Station? →
Okay, okay this is a plug!! My wife started a website that benefits mostly military families being continuously sent to new duty stations. For those unfamiliar with military terms it’s called a PCS (Permanent Change of Station). The frustrating part of this kind of move is that generally you don’t know anything about your new location. Where do you get the info? There is a lot of...

Family split...of a different kind
No- not what you might have in mind when you see this line. No divorce in sight. We have a different split going on about which the Haynies have to think. Where do I begin? There are 5 family members - big Haynie Daddy, Haynie Mom, Alex (11), Tyler (15) and Anna (13). While the boys are getting big and honing their adventure skills, Anna is left behind. Anna has Down Syndrome. She is...

Mt.Rose ascend 05/2010 →
Yesterday, we hiked Mt.Rose. who’d ‘thunk’ that you could get sore muscles from a leisurely hike? Well, we ended up hiking 5 1/2 hours and ascended 3,000ft in elevation, one third of the way being in 1 foot deep snow. Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

How to choose an adventurous life.. →
I think having an adventurous life is a choice - make a plan and follow it. Or have kids LOL. That is an adventure in itself but you can get even deeper into the adventure when you include them. I see some adventurous folks lay down their exciting lifestyle while they are tending to their kids. Face it you’ll have to change but you can drag them along. It’s not always going to be...

Survivor Casting Call →
This was Tim’s dream - participating in Survivor. He made it to a final selection procedure in LA but then wasn’t picked. The air was out of Survivor. I don’t think we have watched a full episode since then. I personally would prefer Amazing Race, but I think Survivor would have been great for Tim and it would have been entertaining too. He “plays” well with others....
