Adventurer Tim

This is where we take our inspiration! People like the Coate/Spaldings and the Hayes! Go on guys!

Yup, right here! Want - to - go.

Anyone else getting the itch to adventure?

Family split…of a different kind

No- not what you might have in mind when you see this line. No divorce in sight.

We have a different split going on about which the Haynies have to think. Where do I begin?

There are 5 family members - big Haynie Daddy, Haynie Mom, Alex (11), Tyler (15) and Anna (13). While the boys are getting big and honing their adventure skills, Anna is left behind. Anna has Down Syndrome. She is wonderful, funny, pleasant and tough as nails. She fits right into our family. Yet, last night again, it was painfully obvious that while the rest of the Haynies are enjoying themselves all together Anna is somewhat left out.
Don’t get me wrong - considering her dis-abilities -what she can do is great. Nevertheless, it seems as though one will always have to stay with Anna while the rest of the family does something else. It’s not the end of the world but its a bit painful because we really want to do things as a family unit. So leaving her with a sitter is not an option at least not yet.

In the car on our way home we talked with the boys about the situation and I was very proud to say that they see the same issue and are willing to shoulder part of the teaching responsibility. This made me very happy, because this means we are united again, in the quest to not give up and to remain strong as a family unit. It’s kind of like
“no child left behind”.

No doubt. My boys are the best. That’s my Mothers’ Day present.

So Germany was also a culinary adventure, but soooo good!

So Germany was also a culinary adventure, but soooo good!

Adventure is a path. Real adventure - self-determined, self-motivated, often risky - forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind - and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.

I think having an adventurous life is a choice - make a plan and follow it. Or have kids LOL. That is an adventure in itself but you can get even deeper into the adventure when you include them. I see some adventurous folks lay down their exciting lifestyle while they are tending to their kids. Face it you’ll have to change but you can drag them along. It’s not always going to be pretty and we are the first ones to talk about being exhausted at the end of the day…but it’s been worth while.
